I decided that before we kept ploughing money into the race car, I wanted to go racing as a driver and make sure i wasn't going to bottle it on the start line.... So thats exactly what we did.
We visited our local breakers yard (www.silverlakeautoparts.co.uk) and purchased a BMW 540 for £500.00 it was registered as a CAT C right off (uneconomical Repair). It looked like it had new tyre's on the rear and one of the wheels had come off and taken the back bumper with it, so we bought the car and decided to give racing a go....
We had an absolutely fantastic weekend, we had 26 runs in 2 days. It was a fantastic bracket car, it ran a best of 15.7 @ 93mph. We want to thank a few people for helping is to fulfill... this they include Silverlake for the BMW, Midge Piasco at Westleigh Motor Factors, Steve & Jim for their support. I can definately say the bug is biting.... and yes i did get the red mist when i was up against a young lad in a Saxo. Its safe to say he did finish up looking at the rear bumper!!!! The guys and girls at Shakespeare County Raceway were fantastic with special thanks to Tony Bing & Bev..... (Bev - We miss you at the end of the fire up road please get well and back to us all soon x x x x)
So its safe to say Drag Racing is open to ALL and it certainly doesn't have to cost a fortune and the fun factor is fab! There really is no excuse for anyone not to have a go if they really want to, the only excuse is the person making them....
Jim can also back me on this as he did some runs too... although i was faster than him... HA HA.
We have had the car re-registered and its has been used just about everyday since we had our weekend racing March/April 2007.
